Celebrate Dad in Style: Thoughtful Gifts for Father’s Day

Father's Day is fast approaching, and it's the perfect time to show our dads, grandfathers, and father figures just how much they mean to us. In New Zealand, we celebrate this special day on the first Sunday in September (1 September in 2024), a tradition that offers a moment to reflect on the love, guidance, and support these incredible men provide throughout our lives.

When did Father's Day begin?

The origins of Father's Day date back to the early 20th century, when Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, was inspired by the newly recognized Mother's Day. Dodd wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran named William Jackson Smart, who single-handedly raised six children after the death of his wife. Her efforts led to the first Father’s Day celebration in 1910, and the tradition quickly spread, eventually becoming a national holiday in the United States. Today, it’s celebrated worldwide, with each country adding its own unique customs and traditions.

New Zealand Fathers Day

In NZ and Australia, we celebrate Fathers Day on the first Sunday in September. Due to our Auckland floral courier schedules, this means all deliveries to Dad will go out on the Saturday before Fathers Day so he can enjoy your gift for the whole weekend!
